giffgaff - You are a giffgaff away

This project was a D&AD New Blood Awards 2023 competition brief set by giffgaff, this was a branding and digital media advertisement brief featuring motion graphics. 

This brief allowed me to try a different approach with giffgaff’s brand advertisement, while keeping a clear visual identity through the colour palette, type and messages.

I carried out some background research into giffgaff to create a detailed motion graphic showing their support as a social platform.

What is giffgaff
all about?

  • They provide flexible monthly network plans called ‘goody bags’ they recommend the best plans to save their members’ money.
     

  • They have a support forum called ‘the giffgaff community’ and members can give feedback using a user friendly accessible interface.

 

  • The forum also features sections such as photography, text games and general discussion.
     

  • Users can switch plans for their ‘goody bag’ at any point which allows members to know their mobile data allowance.

giffgaff values?

  • giffgaff uses a tagline ‘the mobile network run by you’ and this shows their B Corp branding as an open and friendly company by giving their members options and ownership of their decisions.

  • giffgaff is a Scottish word for ‘mutual giving’ which sums up their guidelines for listening to their members and involve them by letting them voice their opinions.

  • They encourage members to give feedback and a clear direction on what improvements giffgaff need to make for their platform.

I chose this colour palette because I believe it matched the brand aesthetic of giffgaff’s campaigns and this is very important because it promotes brand recognition and loyalty.
This colour palette blends well as a gradient for backgrounds and animation assets that will be used in my Instragram story.

Poppins is a geometric sans serif typeface which looks very attractive and readable.
I decided to use this typeface to keep the brand identity of giffgaff familiar to members as Poppins has been used in their past campaigns.

When creating my icons, I used vibrant gradient colours. This colour palette gave my project a modern and friendly appearance.

I converted my icons and emojis into 3D using Adobe Illustrator’s ‘3D and Materials’ tab.
This feature allowed me to easily add depth and adjust the lighting to my satisfaction.
